Video 1: By the Santa Clara river, we can see Great Blue Herons. And it looks something like this 99% of the time.
Video 2: But then, excitement suddenly starts after patiently waiting.
Video 3: If you are extremely lucky, you could see something like this, perhaps 0.01% of the time. It’s because it’s Spring now. (Please control the volume of the sound. It may be too loud.)
It was about a 5 mile hike to an unnamed rock and back. We started walking from the parking lot of Lambs Knoll by North Kolob Road.
We planned to hike up to Angel’s Landing In Zion NP but we gave up because it was closed for maintenance. Besides that, we couldn’t even get to the entrance gate. None of us knew that Spring break started yesterday in Utah. No wonder so many kids and cars were there.
We waited for 1.5 hours in the line, but made a U-turn back to the town of Vergin, then went up north on North Kolob road.
From Lambs Knoll parking lot, we went up to an unnamed rock.
What we looked for was the same scenery that was a photographer, Jack Hiller, captured in his photograph in 1872. No one knows from where he took it, so we just had to guess about the location by comparing the scene in front of our eyes with his photo.
The same scene Jack Hiller used for one of his picture.
This was it. This was one of the locations he had chosen.
Jack’s picture on the left.
I don’t know well about the history of the development process around the 1870’s. But I was told that it had to be processed within 15 minutes, and water was one of the key materials they needed to use. Fortunately, they found a pool of water at the top of the rock, so they could take more pictures than they expected.
The same water pool Jack used in1872 was still there.
It was an easy 5 mile long trail.
High cliffs of lava rocks are standing right next to the La Verkin Creek.
We found many swallow’s nests on the wall cavities.
The age range of our hiking group is very wide, from 20’s to 70’s. But we could enjoy being together while walking. I think that is one of nice things about going for a hike in a group.
Beyond Santa Clara river, we found a colony of Great Blue Herons.
We enjoyed observing them so much although it was a windy and cloudy day.
I have accumulated many pictures again. So I want to introduce you shots reminded me of an ice skating pose, “Biellman Spin” today. I made a 10 seconds video.
The day after I broke the 40 minutes time wall last week, I was so happy. So I ran again the very next day.
That was all right for me, but my knee didn’t think so. It hurts now.
I want to attend the race, but I don’t want to overdo it.
It doesn’t bother me when I walk or dance. So I think it’s not bad enough to see a doctor. So, I brought out all our stretching and muscle building tools. This will keep me motivated until I recover from the pain. Of course, I will use them.
You can seal tile and grout all by yourself.
We asked a professional before moving in to this house three years ago. But it was about time to do it again. So I applied High-Gloss Finish Sealer all by myself.
The picture below is before (left) and after (right) applying.
It looks so shiny and nice after the 2-3 coatings. Animals on the floor are also happy with it.
I crocheted tiny flower pads for furniture legs to protect the floor.
I also bought small rugs for the swivel chairs.
All these changes made the house cleaning work so much easier because you don’t need to worry about scratching the floor when you move them.
It is a half day hiking trail, 3.7 miles and 289 feet elevation gain. We went off on a side trail at the end, so the distance is little longer than the trail itself.
The old St. George airport was on the left side of the trail. It’s now used for variety of purposes. We talked about the town and how it has changed in the past 10 years while walking.
The trail has an historical background, and a monument plate was attached to a rock. According to the description, it was used to carry lava rocks from 1871 to 1874.
The Mormon pioneers needed lava rocks for the foundation of the Saint George Temple standing in the center of town.
According to the monument description, they needed to use the lava rock because the soil at the temple site is an alkali soil, and lava rock was impervious to alkali soil.
The pioneers used dynamite charges to make the trail. We found rocks still containing holes for the dynamite charges on the side of the trail.
Can you imagine how hard it was to carry such huge rocks down without any machinery?
But our history was always like that, wasn’t it? We kept challenging ourselves against impossibles, didn’t we? That’s why we could go to space. My thought leaped high from this, but, aren’t we great or what? Yes, Banzai human!
Although Banchan said it was very good, my score for this dessert is lower than his.
I spent three times longer for the baking time than the recipe called for, but it still didn’t come out looking right. The oven temperature didn’t go high enough, or I might have added too much lemon juice.
I thought it was easy enough, but the Lemon Tart was much more difficult than I expected.
Oh, I will take him back home. Would you go and get a fish for us?”
Later on that day, the father was sitting by an icy lake even after sunset. He was waiting patiently for a fish to catch.
The night went on like this down to 11 degrees Fahrenheit temperature. Soo cold!!!
