Night photography workshop

I don’t like driving, but enjoy riding a car at night. Especially at the hot summer night like last weekend, it was quite refreshing drove through Goldengate bridge to Presidio and Saousalito area, north of San Francisoco.
Banchan and I attened a night photography workshop by Eric Gould last weekend. I have learned two simple yet eye opening tips from it. Let me talk about them in a separate topic entry tomorrow.

Capturing Transamerica triangle building between the bridge pillars.
Aperture F9.0, Exposure 1/125 sec., ISO 320

20130629-IMG_0026

Aperture F8.0, Exposure 15 sec., ISO 200

Aperture F8, Exposure 30 sec., ISO 400

Made a birthday card for my friend…

Went to Hachi ju Hachi restaurant in Saratoga with Steve, Masako-san, and Banchan.
The chef’s home made salt was sweet…!

I have started a new painting project.
But before that, I decided display my old painting on the empty wall until I complete my new painting.

20130625-IMG_9940
I am going to use this canvas for the next painting.
I think this is done when my son was younger than 10 years. We painted together something we liked. It’s incomplete and forgotten.

Not sure how to complete…

Feeling I need to do something but not sure what to do with it, I tried to hang the painting on one of my living room wall.
It looks pretty good although I designed to hang this on my friend’s bedroom matching bed spread, etc. And of course, there is a hint of a woman lying there.

Oh no~, I spotted a duty color change on the wall where I had TV before. Does a TV do this…?
20130606-IMG_9920

Horizon

What do I see beyond the horizon… ? This was my question for the day.
I painted it again where I can see a tiny body of the sea right below the sun.
I don’t have the answer for it yet. So I will paint it again with the question:

What do I want to see beyond the horizon?

20130604-IMG_9894

Technovation 2013

Volunteered again as a photographer for Technovation World pitch held at Twitter SF office last week. The event hall was filled with girls’ passion and dedication. They’ve charged my drained old battery with young power.
See more photos at my flickr page.
Technovation-171

Highlights from Japan trip – people

Oh, no… it’s almost a month ago, but here it goes. It’s about people in Japan today. I love them all. (of course, I love people around me here, too.)

20130406-IMG_8845

About 30 people gathered for my dad’s 88 years old birthday party.  They are all my relatives.  I could only greet them because we simply didn’t have much time, but it was indeed nice to see them there and sharing the moment together.    I must say my dad is one of the happiest people in the world having all of us there for him.
It was not so long ago last time I met them, yet I found new lines of wrinkles here and there on their faces.  It’s funny that I don’t want to see wrinkles on my face, but I found them beautiful on their faces. Indeed, they are their history of lives.

Can you see a smiling old woman on the left in the picture below?
She is a proud mother of the shop owner, a soba noodle restaurant we went to. Her son makes soba noodle in the room behind everyday. I could see how much she cares about the restaurant, and loves what she does.  The food was wonderful, and she served us so well, but I must say she gave us more than that, something very warm, a true hospitality.
20130404-IMG_8574

An old man is delivering an order to his customer with a bicycle by carrying a tray on his shoulder. It’s a sight I often saw when I was young, but I don’t see it so often any more. It reminded me of a happy old days…
20130403-IMG_8361
Unfortunately, I couldn’t take pictures so much about lovable people in Japan. So it will be my next assignment. It’s far from colorful and fancy, but they are something I want to treasure. I could hear from their wrinkles; they said it’s all right, we are doing all right.

Right here with you

You’ve been right here with me all these time…

It was seven years ago when you become a member of my house plants.  Since then, you were always there right by a window, yet this is the first time I witness your fantastic transformation.

My house plant, Japanese Sago Palm, has transformed into a gorgeous form.
One sleepy afternoon in a sunny spring weekend… you’ve led me into a magical world of Sago Palm dance.

Highlights from Japan trip – places

20130403-IMG_8209It was little too late for Cherry blossom in Tokyo, but we could still see some.
Here at Sayama reservoir, we could see Mount Fuji although clouds covered the beautiful figure.
A little after Sunset view.
20130331-IMG_8133.jpg
20130403-IMG_8334
Our trip to Japan was only 10 days. Take away two days for moving days left us only 8 days. Gave up going out from Tokyo. Boys didn’t care so much of visiting historical places, but I took them to Asakusa for a change.
20130403-IMG_8360 Kappabashi street is not so far away from Asakusa by walking. It’s a district for hardware for professional. I wanted to get a knife sharpening stone. “Kappa” is an imaginally folklore character. When you see figures like this, it’s already Kappabashi street.
20130403-IMG_8431

Pockemon Center…
I thought it’s only for kids… but we went there anyway.
To my surprise, there are many adults including foreigners.

20130404-IMG_8616Well, it’s Gundam.
Take off Rinkai line at Tokyo Teleport station, it’s Odaiba.
I don’t know how to describe it, but Odaiba is a gigantic amusement area made boys so excited. They commented they could spend a few days there. Gundam stood there in front of Fuji television occasionally make noise, steam, and flashes.

20130404-IMG_8587
This is Odaiba map.
He is pointing at Pallet Town, starting point of Pockemon game.
20130401-IMG_8172
View Sanshine 60 building from Ikebukuro Station.
We had rain almost everyday. You can not see the top of the building because of the rain.
Boys went to anime shops near by Sunshine 60.

20130405-IMG_8760
Seibu Ikebukuro line offers Super express line called “Red Allow.”
We took a ride for fun since we didn’t have a chance to ride “Shinkansen”, super express JR line.
When the train came in, we spotted NRA on the side of the train.
Boys couldn’t stop laughing at it as you know it stands for National Rifle association in US.
NRA stands for New Red Allow in Japan.
National Rifle Association が日本では New Red Allowなんだ~!

Highlights from Japan trip – food

The purpose of the trip was to attend my dad’s 88 year old celebration party.
Because I went there with my son and his friend, both 22 years old, it became a quite unique trip.  Today’s highlight is food.
We didn’t go for gourmet, but rather very reasonable simple dishes.  (two boys and gourmet won’t go together, at least my wallet. ) but they are all so delich!

Pick up dishes from the running dishes or order items from screen, the dishes will come to you on a bullet train.

And this is the result.

Porcupine Dilemma

Spongebob’s episode: Something smells

Mustard flower
