オオアオサギの卵が孵化しました。 The eggs of Great blue heron hatched.

野生動物の世界です。アカオノスリが近くの木の上でじっと見つめています。 This is the world of wildlife. A red-tailed hawk was watching them from a nearby tree.
子供たちが巣立てるようになるまで 2-3ヶ月間、お父さん、お母さん、お疲れ様です。それまでこうして天敵から守っているんですね。 It takes 2-3 months for the chicks to fledge. Until then, parents need to protect their chicks like this from predators.
お気に入りのピアノとチェロの音楽グループ、ピアノガイがTuachanに帰ってきてくれました。昨夜、一晩だけのコンサートだったので、超満員でした。 The Piano Guys came back to Tuacahn amphitheater last night. It was fully packed because they performed only one night, and we all know that they are great performers.
残念ながら演奏中の写真はありません。音楽はクラシックとモダンのフュージョンみたいなものでしょうか。誰もが笑いこけるコンサート内容ですが、彼らの優しさがジワジワと伝わる大好きなコンサートです。 Unfortunately, I don’t have any pictures during the show. Their music is like a fusion of classical and modern. Their talk was so funny that we all laughed and laughed, yet at the same time we could find their love and kindness between the words. That’s why I like them.
チェロ奏者のスティーブは32本も持っていますが、前回のコンサートの時もこの4本が活躍していた様に記憶しています。彼の凄さはチェロ演奏だけではなく、足元にある器具を演奏中に起用に操り、パーカッションやその他の効果音を取り入れて音楽を増幅させることができることです。 The cellist, Steve, owns 38 cellos. But I remember that he used the same four cellos last night as he did in the last concert we saw as well. His talent isn’t limited to the cello only. The gadgets around his chair on the floor are operated by his feet. He steps on those to create unusual effects, slaps the cellos to create percussion sounds, and expands the music quality while he plays cello.
彼らはセイントジョージ出身グループです。でも多忙なのでいつ帰って来られるのかわかりません。記念に彼らのロゴ、ピアノとチェロが歯車の中で重なり合っている図柄、のTシャツをバンちゃんに買ってもらいました。They grew up and started the group activities in St. George. But we don’t know when they will come back again as they are so busy. So Banchan bought me a T-shirt with their logo, a piano and cello overlapping in the wheel, on the front.
「走っている時、心拍が170を超えない様にしなさい。」と、トレーナーから厳しい言葉を頂いてしまいました。 “Do not go over 170BPM when you are running.” said my trainer.
3月30日の結果は176をガンガン超えて、平均心拍数が168と危険な数値らしいです。 The data below is from March 30, and the average heart rate is 168bpm, and max was 176bpm! According to her, it was a dangerous number.
そこで心拍数テストをしました。朝、目覚めた時の心拍数のチェックら始めて、ストレステストをした後の心拍数も測ります。テストの日はコーヒーを飲むなと言われたのにすっかり忘れて、ガブガブと2はいも飲んでしまいました。それを考慮しても高いと言われました。 So, she gave me a heart beat rate test. I checked my bpm the first thing in the morning for a week. Then she checked the recovery rate. I totally forgot not to drink any coffee on the test date, so it’s not so accurate but still, it’s too high.
対策として、当面は、170以上になりそうな時は歩く様にしました。4月3日の結果は上り坂を歩いたので平均値が161と下がりました。 Based on the result, she gave me two recommendations. One was to walk when my bpm goes over 170 and recover from it. Because I did it, my average bpm went down to 161 on April 3.
また、一週間に4-5回の有酸素運動をすることで、心臓を強くします。走ることだけじゃなく、自転車漕ぎ、エリプティカル、競歩など。She also recommended me to do cardio exercises 4-5 times per week besides running. It could be bicycles, elliptical, power walk, etc.
体脂肪も47％から27％に減らす様に言われましたが、運動量を増やせばいいのかな？ She also mentioned that I need to lose body fat from 47% to 27%. I am not sure what to do with it but I will increase my amount of exercises.
レースまで、もう3週間ちょいしかないです。 OMG, there are only three more weeks to go till the race day!!!
ザイオン国立公園の山々が見える場所。 We could see mountains of Zion National Park.
さらにパインバレー山脈が一望できる。 We could also see the entire Pine Valley Mountains.
そんな場所にある小さな赤い岩の岸壁に、アカオノスリの巣を発見することができました。野生動物になるとバンちゃんの目は千里眼となります。 Having the power of second sight, Banchan found the nest of a pair of Red-tailed Hawks up high in a small hole in the red rocks of this gorgeous place.
巣の中にはすでに卵がある様で、夫婦交代で暖めてます。 It seemed that eggs were laid in the nest already. So the husband and wife took turns sitting on them.
ちょっと遠い場所なので頻繁に観察しに行けるわけではないですが、2-3 週間後にまた行きます。その頃までに卵が孵化していたら興奮します。 Although we can’t go there so often because it’s not so close to our house, we want to go back there again in 2-3 weeks. I am very hopeful that the eggs will hatch by then.
ところで、この鳥の名前のアカオノスリは、赤い尾だからそう付けられた様ですが、赤い尾を今まで確認できませんでした。でも、今回その赤い尾をバッチリ確認できました。 By the way, we know that the name of bird comes from its red tail. I have seen them so many times in the air or in trees but I have never quite seen the red color on the tail until now.

ネバダ州のゴールドビュート国定公園、4km と、とても短い距離ですが、4時間かけて岩場を歩く盛りだくさんのペトログリフ巡りをするハイキングでした。 The hike route was only 2.5 miles, but we spent more than four hours going through the rocky area at Gold Butte National Monument in Nevada. This was because there were petroglyphs everywhere.
説明し出すととても長くなります。だから要点だけをまとめます。アメリカ先住民によって描かれたペトログリフは、古いものは1万年前、新しいものはほんの数百年前のものまである様です。その見分け方は、岩の色、点描画のように、一点一点削られた後の色などで判断されるようです。 This is a very short summary of what I learned yesterday. The petroglyphs were carved by Native Americans. The old ones are 10 thousand years old but newer ones are only 200 years old. We can’t tell clearly but we could guess the age of the petroglyphs by looking at the rock color and the lines of petroglyphs created one dot at a time.
例えば以下の写真です。不鮮明ですが4本指の手が下の方に描かれています。上のヤギと比べるとペティナ（古色化）により多く覆われて、描かれた年代が古い事がわかります。 The picture below is one example. Can you see a hand with four fingers towards the bottom? It is covered by petina more, so it can tell us that the hand is older than the goats along the top.
突起する場所は3箇所です。The hike had three highlights.
フォーリングマン（転落する男）：ペトログリフはこの辺一体に散財しています。そのどれもがマッチ棒のような表現の仕方になっています。例えば、こんな感じ。 Falling Man: You can find so many petroglyphs at this particular area. And almost all of them are carved like stick man pictures. See below picture.
でも、ただ一つ、この絵は明らかに違いました。 However, one was clearly different.
描かれた場所から、親族、もしくは特別な誰かが高い崖の上から転落した様を伝えようとしているのではないかという事です。 正面から見たマッチ棒のような図では表現できない出来事だったので、こう描かれたのではないかということです。The location of the petroglyph is on the side of a high cliff. One theory is that someone very important to the artist had fallen down off the top of the cliff. So he/she couldn’t simply express it with a stick man figure. That caused him/her to do a totally different type of carving from the others.
2. ニュースペーパーロック（新聞岩）：ペトログリフがギッシリ積み込まれた一枚岩です。ジムブーン博士が絵について諸説を説明してくれました。 Newspaper Rock: it’s named newspaper rock because many petroglyphs are packed onto a single wall of rock. Below picture is Dr. Jim Boone who guided us to these places. He talks about several theories how we could read them.
3. 21ぴきのヤギ：ちょっと疲れてきた頃、突然現れた岸壁です。みんなその壁に見入っているところです。 21 Goats: It was towards the end of the hike. We were tired, but the flat cliff face appeared suddenly in front of us. And it shocked us all.
なぜなら名前の通り、やぎが21頭、もしくはそれ以上描かれていたからです。列を成してどこかに行こうとしているところなのでしょうか。This is because 21 or more goats were carved on the rock surface. I wonder where they are going all lined up like that?
最後に、ペトログリフとペトログラフは別物である事です。ペトロは岩、グリフは彫刻、グラフは絵画です。以下の写真は、両方が混合しています。赤い線がペトログラフです。 For the last, I want to point out about the petroglyphs and petrographs. I didn’t know this, but “petro” is “rock”, and “glyph” is “carving”. And “graph” is “drawing”. The picture below includes both petroglyphs and petrographs. The red color drawings are petrographs.
