久しぶりに旅に出ました。旅は約一週間ほどでしたが、盛りだくさん。- We went out for a short trip for the first time after a long time. It was only about a week, but quite intense and fun.

まずは北東、ユタ州とコロラド州の境にある、恐竜国定公園に向かいました。- We went to Dinosaur National Monument located at the border of Colorado and Utah.

公園が近づいてくると恐竜がここかしこにいて、私たちを迎えてくれました。期待度がどますます上がって行きます。- When we got closer, we found welcoming dinosaurs here and there. This raised my expectation higher and higher.

下の写真、この建物がメインアトラクションと言っていいでしょう。恐竜の化石満載の壁を囲むようにして建てられ、多くの化石を保護しているからです。- The picture below shows the building which is one of the main attractions of the park because it is built around a large intact wall of fossil bones.

1909 年に最初の恐竜の化石がこの地で発見されてから、何百という骨がアメリカ中の博物館に展示物として送られました。この公園があるジェンセンという町は、まさに恐竜発掘のメッカです。- Hundreds of dinosaur fossil bones were found from here and sent to museums all over America as exhibits. The town of Jensen next to the park is literally the place of Dinosaurs.

勿論、まだまだ多くの化石が地面の中に眠っていて、発掘作業は続いています。- Of course, the excavation of fossils are still ongoing as many more bones are in the ground.

ちなみに、バンちゃんは古生物学が大好きで、アルゼンチンまでボランティアとして発掘作業に出かけていった経験があります。- By the way, Banchan loves paleontology and has experienced digging fossils as a volunteer in Argentina.

残念ながら、時間がなくて公園内の探索はできませんでしたが、またぜひ訪れたいリストに入りました。- Unfortunately we ran out of time and couldn’t explore the park more. So it is now in the list of “Want to go back to places.”

その日に泊まった宿の外、絶対に欲しい車椅子に出会いました。車輪はキャタピラで、上り降り、多少のでこぼこ道も自由自在に動ける電動式。- On a side note, I found an amazing gadget. It is a wheel chair that was in front of our cabin for the night. The wheels are basically caterpillars and it can travel on many types of terrain freely. It is electrically powered by a battery. I want this!

あー、これだから旅は面白い。オフロード車椅子みたいな格好いいものまで発見できるんだから！- Isn’t it great to be on the road again and to be able to see things like this, “Off-road Wheel Chair!”
