雨が降る日が続いてます。 Rainly days continue these days.

先日、印刷屋さんを訪れると、入り口のドアにトカゲが張り付いていました。受付の女の子曰く、数日そのまんまの状態で動いてないと言っていました。　The other day I visited a printing shop and found a lizard stuck to the entrance door. The girl at the reception desk said it had been there for several days and hadn’t moved.

写真をもとに調べてみると、Mediterranean House Gecko (日本語名はないようです)　だとわかりました。　Based on the photo, I found that it is Mediterranean House Gecko.

ヤモリ！　トカゲじゃないんだ。初めて見る生き物に感動しました。　Gecko! It was the not a lizard. I was impressed by the creature I saw for the first time. 

しばらくそのままいてくれるのを願って、大急ぎで家まで戻り、カメラ持参で再び訪れました。　Hoping it would stay that way for a while, I rushed back home and came back again, bringing my camera.

すでに印刷屋さんのドアにはいませんでしたが、近くの建物の下に見つけることが出来ました。　It was no longer at the door of the print shop, but I was able to find it under the wall near door.

やはり暗い場所が好きなんでしょうか。ISOを4000に上げて撮りました。I guess they like dark places. I raised ISO to 4000 and took these shots.

全長10cmと小さいので、手足の独特な形状を撮ろうとしても、なかなかうまくいきませんでした。次回の課題です。チャンスがあったらの話ですが。 Because of its small size (4 inches in length), it was difficult to capture the unique shape of its arms and legs. This is an issue to resolve for next time. If I get a chance, that is.

ヤモリは、私が上手く撮影できずにもがいている間に立ち去っていきました。　The gecko walked away while I struggled to get a good shot.

絶対に触ることは避けたいですが、結構綺麗な模様をしているので、こうして見るだけなら問題ないです。　I definitely do not want to touch it, but it has a pretty beautiful pattern, so just looking at it like this is not a problem.

ちなみに、日本では「家守」と書かれて、字が示す通り家を守る生き物だと言われています。虫などの小さい生物を食べてくれるからなんでしょうか。　Incidentally, in Japan, the word for Gecko is written as “house guardian” in Kanji characters, and is said to be a creature that protects the house, just as the character indicates. Is it because they eat insects and other small creatures?
