1月2日も様々な行事がありました。中でも個人的には一番の行事は “Polar Plunge” （南極の海への飛び込み）。なかなか決心がつかないまま、終わってしまいました。 January 2nd also featured various events. Among them, the Polar Plunge proved to be the most significant event for me personally. I found myself unable to make up my mind, and before I knew it, it was over.

一度は「するぞ」と決心してこのTシャツも買いました。だから私のお気に入りとなり、毎日着てました。でも、躊躇しちゃったんですよね。最近、体力が衰えてきているし、当然、もう若くない。こんな言い訳を見つけ、心配になってしまったんです。 Having once resolved to do it, I bought this T-shirt too. So it became a favourite of mine, and I wore it every day. But I hesitated, you see. Lately, my stamina has been declining, and naturally, I’m no longer young. Finding such excuses, I began to worry.

もう一つ後悔したことは、カヤックに参加しなかったことでした。　Another thing I regretted was not joining the kayaking activities.

これにも言い訳があります。バンちゃんの体調が悪いから。私だけすると、彼が可哀想だ。カメラを持ってカヤックはできないだろう？などなどです。 Well, I have excuses for this, too. Ban-chan wasn’t feeling well. If I went alone, I’d feel sorry for him. You can’t exactly take a camera on a kayak, can you? And so on.

それでも、一人でも参加しようと申し込んだ時にはもう遅かったんですね。締め切られてました。　Even so, by the time I applied to participate on my own, it was already too late. The deadline had passed.

小さな事を気にしていると、チャンスを掴めない。マズイですね。体力は落ちてきても、やる気まで落としちゃいけないよね。　If you dwell on minor matters, you’ll miss out on opportunities. That’s rather unfortunate. Even if your stamina wanes, you mustn’t let your motivation slip too.

今、この日に撮った写真を見返してます。ハンモック島のパラヴァーポイントのペンギン達はこんなに元気でした。　I’m looking back at the photos taken on this very day. The penguins at Palaver Point on Hammock Island were so lively.

こんなに嬉しそう。 What a happy look.

可愛いですよね。 Isn’t it lovely?

こんな写真を見ていると後悔なんて吹き飛びます。 Looking at photos like this makes any regrets vanish.

このペンギンは何を考えているのでしょうか？あの山を登ろうと思っているのなら、私も絶対一緒に登るよ。 I wonder what this penguin is thinking? If it’s planning to climb that mountain, I’ll definitely climb it with you.
